Sobriety Hub is the operating system for a sober living home, and the range of what it holds tells you what that job actually involves. The referral that fills a bed comes from outside the house

What happens inside the house is visible, and the software has it. What decides whether the house is full happens somewhere else entirely.

A referral comes from a detox unit, a treatment centre, a hospital social worker, a probation officer, occasionally an interventionist. It arrives as a telephone call at four on a Friday afternoon, or as an entry in that facility's own referral portal which nobody opened. Families looking for a bed are reading directory listings the house does not control and has probably not updated since spring. Confirmation results come back from a toxicology laboratory with its own website and its own login. A county or a funder wants occupancy reported in its format, on its schedule.

And underneath all of it, rent. Invoices go out, autopay runs, and somebody still has to work out which payments cleared and who to speak to about the ones that did not.

Everything that happens inside the house is already covered

Within its own walls the platform is thorough, and an operator who has not set all of it up is doing avoidable work.

Beds get filled from the places referrals actually come from

A referral has a shelf life measured in hours. An empty bed costs money for the whole of that time.

Referral queues at the detox units and treatment providers you work with, read every morning and again late on a Friday, so a referral made at four is answered before the weekend rather than after it. Beds coming free in the next fortnight, worked out from scheduled discharges and set against every directory the house is listed on, so a family reading a listing tonight sees something true.

Confirmation results collected from the laboratory's own site and placed in front of the house manager in the state they arrived. Rent balances set against what the payment processor actually cleared, so a failed autopay becomes a conversation on Tuesday instead of a hole at month end. Occupancy figures assembled in the shape the county asks for. Alumni nobody has spoken to in ninety days, listed with the date they left.

The boundary here is stricter than in most businesses, because of what the record is. Reading, comparing and listing can run unattended. Anything that changes a resident's record, or discloses something about a resident outside the house, waits for a qualified person.

None of that is a judgement call. It is a round of logins done in the same order every morning, and it is the first thing to slide in a week when somebody has called in sick.
