Opendock is dock scheduling software from Loadsmart, and it does one thing that changes a warehouse's day: it lets carriers book their own delivery appointments. Instead of a receiving clerk fielding calls and keeping a whiteboard, a carrier picks a load type, sees the slots the facility's rules leave open, and books one.
What lives in it is the shape of tomorrow. Which doors are spoken for and when, which carrier is bringing what load type, who checked in at the gate and when, how long they stayed, and who never turned up.
The people around it are not one team. A receiving supervisor reads it as a staffing plan for the shift. A carrier reads it as the difference between a delivery and a wasted afternoon. It sits on a real chokepoint: a dock door takes one truck at a time, and everything upstream of it is a promise.

A carrier books a nine o'clock slot and arrives at half past one, so two hours of labour stands idle and everything behind it slides. Carriers see live availability inside those limits, can reschedule or cancel within them, and their appointment history stays on the record. Driver check-in captures the arrival at the gate with a timestamp, which turns a detention argument into a document. Carrier scorecards track on-time performance, so the carrier late every week is a fact rather than a feeling. The yard side adds a custom layout, real-time tracking and trailer assignment for sites where trailers stay longer than trucks.

What decides whether the schedule survives contact with the day is upstream, on other people's websites. The carrier's tracking shows where the truck is tonight. Every appointment on tomorrow's board matched against the carrier's own tracking, so the load still four states away at six in the evening becomes a rescheduling decision at seven rather than a hole in the door plan at nine. Each appointment tied to the purchase order it is delivering, with the quantity the supplier confirmed, so receiving knows what is coming and roughly how long unloading will take. Suppliers checked for ship confirmations, so a slot is not held all Thursday for an order that never left.
The record has other uses. Carriers that book and no-show counted over a quarter, set beside their own published on-time pages. Detention claims assembled from gate timestamps and the carrier's invoice, ready to accept or dispute the week they land. Dwell compared across doors and shifts, so the door that quietly takes an hour longer becomes visible.
The boundary is the same everywhere. Reading and comparing can run unattended, while anything that moves a carrier's appointment or answers their invoice is prepared for a person to send.
