OnRamp runs the coating line and the ledger from one record

A coating line is a queue with a temperature attached to it. Parts hang on a conveyor, go through pretreatment, take powder or liquid, and spend a set time in an oven at a set temperature. Get the sequence or the cure wrong and the finish fails later, usually at the customer.

OnRamp Solutions builds the ERP those plants run on. It is one manufacturing system rather than several joined together, covering MES on the floor, quality, advanced planning and scheduling, maintenance, engineering, sales and shipping, purchasing, finance and HR, and it is sold to small and mid-size manufacturers in machining, fabrication, casting and finishing. Line-side monitors put the work instructions and the specification where the operator is standing, and completions and non-conformances are logged as they happen rather than at the end of a shift.

The line is the constraint, and the line is fed by other companies.

A colour runs out and the distributor's stock page is the only place that says when more lands. A powder lot arrives and its certificate is on the supplier's site rather than in the box. A customer moves a release quantity and publishes it on their portal instead of ringing. A gauge is due back from the calibration house and nobody knows which day. Freight for the load that shipped Friday is a number on a carrier's website.

Every one of those is a date, and every date lives on somebody else's website. So the plant plans around promises instead, and finds out on the morning of the run.

The QMS carries SPC with real-time dashboards, PPAP and APQP, gage management with calibration alerts, non-conformance records and corrective and preventive actions, plus lot and heat number tracking and supplier scorecards. Advanced planning and scheduling works from real capacity rather than a wish. Maintenance management keeps the ovens and the conveyor on a cycle. Because finance sits in the same system, a job's cost carries the rework and the waste rather than an allocation added afterwards.

The supplier scorecard is the clearest case of the boundary. It is built out of what your receiving dock recorded: what turned up, when, and whether it was right. That is a fair measure of the past. It cannot tell you what the supplier has published about next week, and the ship date on the supplier's portal, the lot certificate on the powder maker's site and the calibration certificate at the lab all sit outside the system doing the scoring.

Carrier tracking for the loads that shipped, ready before the customer calls. Current price and lead time on the resins and powders you actually buy, set against what the quote assumed.

The boundary is worth naming. Reading a portal and lining it up against the schedule runs with nobody watching. Releasing a purchase order, or committing a date back to a customer, is a decision and stays with the person who owns it.

A morning of passwords is the wrong use of a planner

Nobody in scheduling is short of work already.

Will it place a purchase order with our powder supplier?

No. It reads order status, stock and prices and brings them back against the schedule. Raising or releasing a purchase order commits money, so it is drafted and left for the buyer, who is the person accountable for it.

We are on OnRamp for everything already. Where does this fit?

It sits outside the plant rather than inside it. OnRamp holds the work order, the lot record and the cure data. This reads the supplier's portal, the distributor's stock page and the customer's site, which OnRamp was never given logins to.

Can it write a lot certificate into the traceability record?

It collects the certificate and shows it against the load it belongs to. Filing it into the traceability record is left to a person, because in a finishing operation that record is the evidence a customer later relies on.
