Automated Cloudinary Usage Monitoring

Every Monday, WebRun opens the Cloudinary console, reads storage, bandwidth and transformation usage for the current billing period against your plan allowance, projects where the month will finish at the current pace, posts the picture to Slack, and drafts the account owner a Gmail summary when the projection goes over.

In short

How do I avoid going over my Cloudinary plan limits?

WebRun opens the Cloudinary console every Monday, reads storage, bandwidth and transformation usage against your plan allowance, and projects where the billing period will finish at the current pace. It posts the projection to Slack and drafts the account owner a Gmail note when a metric is heading over.

  • An overrun is spotted mid-month while there is still time to optimise
  • The team sees usage without anyone opening the console
  • Plan changes are a considered decision, not a surprise invoice

Step by step

What does WebRun do on every run?

The exact actions WebRun takes, in order - in plain language, so you can adjust anything.

  1. WebRun signs in and gets to work

Opens console.cloudinary.com in a real browser with your saved login - no setup, no API keys.

  2. 1
Cloudinary - read usage against the plan
    cloudinary.com
WebRun in Cloudinary: read usage against the plan
WebRun opens Cloudinary to read usage against the plan.
    • Open the Cloudinary console and go to your account usage view
    • Read storage, bandwidth and transformation usage so far in the current billing period
    • Note the plan allowance for each and how many days of the period have passed
    • Project the end-of-period figure for each metric at the current daily pace
    • Note any metric that has grown sharply against the same point last month

Done when Each usage metric has a current figure, an allowance and a projected month end.

  3. 2
    Slack - post the projection
    slack.com
WebRun in Slack: post the projection
WebRun opens Slack to post the projection.
    • Post the usage picture to your engineering channel in Slack
    • Show each metric as used, allowance and projected month end
    • Put any metric projected to exceed the allowance at the top with the day it is forecast to cross
    • Add last month's finishing figure so the trend is visible

Done when The team can see this week's Cloudinary usage and projection in Slack.

  4. 3
Gmail - draft the owner an overrun note
    gmail.com
WebRun in Gmail: draft the owner an overrun note
WebRun opens Gmail to draft the owner an overrun note.
    • When a metric is projected to exceed the plan, write a short email to the account owner in Gmail
    • State the metric, the projected overrun and the forecast crossing date
    • Leave the email in Drafts so a person decides whether to optimise delivery or change the plan
    • Write no draft at all in a week where everything is projected to land inside the allowance

Done when An overrun email is waiting in Drafts, or the month is on track and none was needed.

Questions, answered

Will it upgrade my Cloudinary plan?

No. WebRun never changes a plan, buys capacity or touches billing details. When a projection goes over the allowance it drafts an email for the account owner, and the decision stays with a person.

Does it send the overrun email on its own?

No. The email is written and left in your Gmail drafts. Only the internal Slack post goes out automatically, and it stays inside your workspace.

How is the month-end figure worked out?

WebRun takes the usage so far in the billing period, divides it by the days elapsed, and extends that daily rate to the end of the period. The Slack post shows the forecast crossing date so you can see how much room is left.

Put this on autopilot.

Turn it on in minutes - or have our team set it up for you.
