Automated Appian Stalled Process Alerts

Every morning, WebRun opens Appian, checks running process instances for any stuck in the same task for more than 2 business days, exports the stalled list with the assigned task owner to Google Drive, and sends a Twilio text to each owner naming the process and how long it has been waiting.

In short

How do I catch process instances stalled waiting on someone in Appian?

Every morning, WebRun checks Appian for process instances stuck in the same task for more than 2 business days, exports the stalled list to Google Drive, and sends a Twilio text to each task owner naming the process and how long it has waited. This turns a silently stalled process into a same-day nudge to the person actually holding it up.

  • Stalled processes get a same-day nudge instead of sitting silently
  • A repeat bottleneck process is easy to spot in the report history
  • Task owners who already cleared their work never get a needless text

Done when Every current task owner with a stalled instance has been texted.

Questions, answered

Does it reassign or complete the stuck task for someone?

No. WebRun only reads process status and texts the current owner. Reassigning or completing a task stays a decision made inside Appian.

How long does a task have to sit before someone gets texted?

More than 2 business days in the same task. Anything moving normally within that window never triggers a text.

Can I see which processes stall the most over time?

Yes. Each day's stalled list is saved as a dated report in Google Drive, so a repeat offending process is easy to spot.
