Automated ICNet Outbreak Cluster Alerts

Every hour, WebRun scans ICNet's case data for any unit and organism combination crossing your cluster threshold, such as 3 or more cases of the same organism on one unit within 7 days, posts the pattern to the Infection Prevention Teams channel with the case count and dates, and texts your IP lead by Twilio so an outbreak investigation can start the same day.

In short

How do I get alerted when ICNet detects a possible outbreak cluster?

WebRun scans ICNet every hour for any unit and organism combination crossing your cluster threshold, such as 3 or more cases on one unit within 7 days. It posts the pattern to Microsoft Teams and texts your IP lead by Twilio, so a possible outbreak gets investigated the same day, not at the next weekly meeting.

  • Cluster patterns are flagged within the hour they cross threshold, not at the next weekly review
  • Your IP lead is texted the same day a possible outbreak pattern appears
  • Clusters already under investigation never trigger a duplicate alert

Step by step

What does WebRun do on every run?

The exact actions WebRun takes, in order - in plain language, so you can adjust anything.

  1. WebRun signs in and gets to work

Opens www.icnetsoftware.com in a real browser with your saved login - no setup, no API keys.

  2. 1
ICNet - scan for cluster patterns crossing threshold
    icnetsoftware.com
WebRun in ICNet: scan for cluster patterns crossing threshold
WebRun opens ICNet to scan for cluster patterns crossing threshold.
    • Open ICNet's surveillance or cluster detection module
    • Group confirmed cases by unit and organism over a rolling 7 day window
    • Flag any unit and organism combination meeting or exceeding the cluster threshold you've set, such as 3 or more cases
    • Capture the case count, dates, and units involved for each flagged pattern

Done when Every unit and organism combination crossing the cluster threshold is identified with its case count and dates.

  3. 2
Microsoft Teams - post the cluster pattern to the IP channel
    microsoft.com
WebRun in Microsoft Teams: post the cluster pattern to the IP channel
WebRun opens Microsoft Teams to post the cluster pattern to the IP channel.
    • Post each flagged cluster pattern to the Infection Prevention Teams channel with the organism, unit, case count, and date range
    • Mark it as a possible outbreak requiring investigation
    • Keep prior flagged clusters visible until marked resolved

Done when The IP team has every flagged cluster pattern visible in Teams with its case count and date range.

  4. 3
Twilio - page the IP lead
    twilio.com
WebRun in Twilio: page the IP lead
WebRun opens Twilio to page the IP lead.
    • Send your IP lead a text naming the organism, unit, and case count for any newly flagged cluster
    • Skip texting for clusters already flagged and under active investigation
    • Keep the message to the pattern only, no patient names or identifiers

Done when Your IP lead has been texted for every newly flagged cluster the same day it crosses threshold.

Questions, answered

Does WebRun declare an outbreak?

No. It only flags when a unit and organism combination crosses the cluster threshold you set and alerts your IP lead. Confirming and declaring an outbreak, and starting a formal investigation, is always a human clinical decision.

Can I set my own cluster threshold?

Yes. The default is 3 or more cases of the same organism on one unit within 7 days, but you can tighten or loosen either number to match your facility's protocol.

Will it keep alerting about a cluster we're already investigating?

No. Once a cluster is marked under investigation in ICNet, it will not generate a repeat Teams post or text for the same pattern.

Put this on autopilot.

Turn it on in minutes - or have our team set it up for you.
